Congratulations to all the Riders, Volunteers and Sponsors who made this event such a great success. These dedicated people raised well in excess of the $250,000 target for 2009. To everyone who supported these exceptional individuals raise funds for SolarisCare - a huge "Thank you."

Twenty-two dedicated cyclists will test their physical and mental endurance over 800 kilometres in eight days to raise funds for the SolarisCare Foundation Cancer Support Centres.

Making A Difference

A diagnosis of cancer calls into question most of life's certainties, changes priorities and strikes fear in the heart. Not only of the patient, but all who care about them. This diagnosis affects so many of us, in so many ways. The Red Sky Ride is a way for ordinary people to achieve something extraordinary - a ride that exists to make a difference to those diagnosed with cancer or caring for someone with cancer.

Twenty-two riders, a large support team, and multitudes of sponsors will all contribute to achieving the extraordinary – they will broaden the access to support services that achieve a reduction in pain, and a big improvement in sense of well being, whilst undergoing treatment for cancer, be it chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery. They will promote awareness of a service that provides support and touch therapies to the carers of people with cancer, the very people that shoulder the huge range of concerns whilst trying to provide a positive and supportive environment for those they care so much about.

Ordinary people – twenty-two riders in all – with family and work commitments – giving up their Saturday and Sunday mornings, 3 weekday evenings, and riding 6000km in training in the 6 months prior to March 1st. Raising awareness, raising funds - their way of helping.

Ordinary people – volunteers and support teams, organizing food, transport, repairs, fundraising events, logistics, because they care, because it makes a difference.

Ordinary people – Sponsors, donors – corporates, teams, individuals, you. - people that have cancer, have recovered from cancer, care for or about someone with cancer, or are just very grateful that none of the above apply to them. Tangible support, tangible results.

Ordinary people – achieving something extraordinary.
